# Web Sources

> Add web content to your project as a research source

# Web Sources

In addition to uploading files, you can add web content directly to your project. Finch Fusion will fetch, process, and index the content from a URL so it becomes part of your searchable research materials.

## Adding a Web Source

### From the Chat Panel

1. Click the **Add Web Source** button in the chat input area
2. Paste the URL of the page you want to include
3. Click **Add** to confirm
4. The platform will fetch and process the web content

### Supported Content

Web source collection works best with:

* News articles and press releases
* Company blog posts and announcements
* Research papers and industry reports
* Public financial filings and documents
* Any publicly accessible web page with text content

<Info>
  The URL must be publicly accessible. Pages that require authentication or are behind paywalls cannot be collected.
</Info>

## How Web Sources Are Processed

When you add a web source, the platform:

1. **Fetches** the content from the provided URL
2. **Extracts** the main text content from the page
3. **Chunks** the content into searchable segments
4. **Indexes** the content for AI queries and report generation

Once processed, web sources appear alongside your uploaded documents in the project sidebar.

## Using Web Sources in Reports

Web sources are treated the same as uploaded documents:

* The AI can search and reference them when answering questions
* They are included in report generation as source material
* Citations will link back to the original URL
* Entity recognition works on web source content

## Best Practices

* **Add relevant sources** before generating reports to give the AI more context
* **Use authoritative sources** such as official company pages, SEC filings, or reputable news outlets
* **Combine with documents** for the most comprehensive research coverage
* **Check the source** after adding to confirm the content was extracted correctly

## Limitations

* Only text content is extracted; images, videos, and interactive elements are not included
* Very large pages may be truncated
* Dynamic content that requires JavaScript rendering may not be fully captured
* Rate limits may apply to the number of web sources per project

<Tip>
  For best results, use direct links to specific articles or pages rather than home pages or search results.
